CREATING A BETTER FUTURE FOR THE CHILDREN

The Caring Hearts United (CHU) Fund aims to aid long-term medical treatment and recovery care for children with serious medical conditions in Longhua District, Shenzhen, China. Here are some beneficiaries of the CHU Fund.

CHEN YING MEI

14 years old; Chronic Renal Failure

Ying Mei was diagnosed with chronic renal failure in 2016 and stays alone in a rented village house. Her mother left after giving birth and she was raised by her dad, who passed away in September 2018.

Ying Mei travels to a downtown hospital three times a week for dialysis, and spends 4 hours commuting via public transport each time. As such, she can only attend school twice a week, but remains upbeat about learning, especially English. She hopes to travel abroad one day and to see the world.

Doctors have said that her only hope is for a kidney transplant – which Ying Mei cannot afford. Despite these, she remains hopeful that things will get better, and we were touched by her spirits. The Fun will help improve her living conditions and hopefully enable her to undergo a kidney transplant, if there's a match.

PENG JIA YI

6 years old; Cerebral Palsy

Jia Yi was diagnosed with cerebral palsy after her birth, and despite undergoing different tests; doctors are unable to determine the cause of her illness. Her parents have spent most of their life savings on the diagnosis and treatment for Jia Yi, and have sold their apartment in Shenzhen’s city centre, moving to a co-rented two-room housing in Longhua District.

Her mother has also quit her full-time job in order to take care of Jia Yi; her father works long hours as the the sole breadwinner. Given the lack of diagnosis and treatment options, the Fund will help contribute towards long-term care for Jia Yi, which we hope will enable her to lead a better life.

QIU JIA JIA

9 years old; Thalassemia

Jia Jia suffers from Thalassemia since young. Due to the abnormal form of hemoglobin in her body, a large number of red blood cells are destroyed, which leads to anemia.

This condition has made Jia Jia very prone to infections with slight deformities in her development. To support her long-term care and treatment, her parents have moved to a rented apartment, while her elder sister, aged 12, takes on most of the household chores while their parents continue to work full-time.

The Fund will help enable Jia Jia to undergo treatment and enhance her quality of life.
